While most of us don’t argue over reading the back of the cereal box (see Portlandia video clip), we all know how important reading is.
One of the biggest concerns of parents of young children is “is my child reading well enough and early enough?” Reading is something we all enjoy, right? Well… sort of…
I’ll just say it. When the kids are in bed and I have finished a few hours of work, the last thing I want to do is read.
In fact, I read only three books in all of 2011. Hopefully my kids won’t read this (and yes, I’m aware that it would be worse if they saw last week’s Vodka Soaked Tampons post), and I probably shouldn’t be admitting this reading issue at all. Of course I’m a “good reader.” I mean, I’ve been reading on the internet all day. In fact, there are too many damn things to be read.
In 2011, I did read news from People Magazine and even The Week, which explains why I’m so well informed.
I skimmed a few books on parenting, because we all know that is the best way to become a better parent (which is proven here).
I also listened to Tina Fey’s Bossypants on tape, which is sort of like reading.
So you’re wondering, what were the books I actually read, like with my eyeballs? Well, I rounded out the year by challenging myself and reading the entire Hunger Games trilogy (there you go…that counts as three books).
Honestly, I really just want a good TV show. I will admit I’m still stuck on a CSI and Law & Order, but there are some great new shows out there. If you’re a reader, check out this list of 2011 Female Fiction Must-Reads. Otherwise, there are some great ideas for movies & TV shows below. The one not to miss? About 7 people have recommended Downton Abbey to me in the last 4 days. And it’s on PBS (who knew that’s the new cool station).
