Now, there's no excuse for lack of time.
I had so many quesitons when we first considered getting an au pair. While the au pair agencies have informative websites, I wanted to know what other parents answered or did when it came to finding and managing their au pair. Here are some of those questions and answers.

A SkinnyScoop member commented: We were likely on the high end of things. Our au pair was absolutely amazing and went above & beyond for us. We ended up giving her 2.5 weeks of pay ($500) in cash so she could travel a little before leaving. We also bought her a silver charm for her charm bracelet that would remind her of our family (last name is King, so we got her a silver crown from Tiffany's...very cute!) And of course the kids made her some artwork. I know 1-2 weeks of total gift is more common but we really wanted to thank & reward her in a big way.
A SkinnyScoop member commented: I am friends w/ some of our caregivers/babysitters but not all. Our nanny who is 40+ and has been with us for 6.5 years - yes. The younger women who aren't quite so regular - no.
A SkinnyScoop member commented: Especially if the kids are in it. But seriously, isn't that what you're paying the housesitter for, among other things?
A SkinnyScoop member commented: could be my background and hang-up but I feel like 'childcare provider" or "caregiver" is sweeter and less ownership laden.
A SkinnyScoop member commented: I've heard of co-ops used in the context of preschools but never for babysitting. The idea of a babysitting co-op makes a lot of sense - pool resources and save money. I certainly will casually trade off or share caregiver duties w/ friends but its never as organized as a co-op. And I am limited by my immediate network.
