GENERAL
Who founded SkinnyScoop and why?
SkinnyScoop was founded by Eden Godsoe and Larissa Dinh with the mission of making personal recommendations social and actionable. Friends’ recommendations are the single biggest driver of
$6 Trillion in annual domestic purchases. Yet there is no easy way for friends to collect up and share recommendations with one another. At the same tim companies spend hundreds of billions of dollars on tactics that don’t drive sales conversion. Eden and Larissa set out to build a set of tools that make it easy for friends to share recommendations with one another while also opening up this part of the purchase process to companies so they could authentically engage with consumers.
Is SkinnyScoop just for women?
Not at all. SkinnyScoop is a set of tools that individuals can use to collect and share personal recommendations with friends, or companies can use to tap their customers to market on their behalf.
How is SkinnyScoop different?
We’ll explain in three words – easy, fun and actionable. If you want to share photos with friends, Facebook is your social network. If you want to be inspired by images of beautiful sunsets and amazing arts and crafts projects, Pinterest has you covered. If you want to cut through the clutter and find out what books your friends are reading, what apps people like you find most useful, or what baby gear worked for other parents, then you need to try out SkinnyScoop.
I've heard about SkinnyScoop Tastemakers - what are they?
Tastemakers are recognized leaders within the SkinnyScoop community who can make a big wave out of a small idea. We rely on our Tastemakers to share their expertise and help us spread the word. In return, SkinnyScoop Tastemakers enjoy benefits like first access to new features, special badges/widgets and the opportunity to participate in the SkinnyScoop guest-blogging program. Hop on over to our Tastemaker page if you'd like to learn more.
CREATING AND ENGAGING WITH LISTS
How do I create a custom list?
To create your first custom list, click on the "Create" tab found on the pink navigation bar at the top of each page and select the list option. From here, the process is simple. We will walk you through naming and describing your list, adding items (product recommendations, website links, tips, anything!) to your list, and finally, publishing and sharing your list.
What are some tips for creating a good list?
When people see some of the lists other people create, they assume it must take a long time or that you need technical know-how. Not true! If you've ever shared a recommendation in an email, posted something to Facebook or even handwritten a list, you can make a great SkinnyScoop list. Like the true list lovers that we are, we've compiled some of our best tips for creating your first collection here.
Can I put the list on my blog or website?
SkinnyScoop lists seamlessly integrate with any blog or website. To embed one, find the orange "HTML" embed button on the right hand side of any list. From there, you'll choose a size and style that looks best for your presentation and copy a code we'll generate for you. Paste the code into an entry on your blog or sidebar on your website and you're good to go.
How do I add a suggestion to someone else's list?
We want all lists to be collaborative, evergreen and useful, so please do share your own suggestions on any open list that you find interesting. You'll see a blue button with "Add a Suggestion" text on any open list and can simply begin typing in the white box to add a new item. The list owner will be notified of your suggestion and may even chose to promote it to the official list.
PRIVACY
What are the default settings for privacy?
The default setting for your SkinnyScoop profile is public. If you would like to limit access to your profile, you can go to the "Settings" link in the upper right corner and select "Privacy".
Can I create a private list?
Not at this time. While we appreciate that people may want to make collections anonymously, we think it's important for list creators to "own" the lists they create. At the same time, we understand you may not want your full name associated with all your content. You can set your user name and handle to whatever you like.
EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS
What are my options for email notifications?
If you have created a list or added a suggestion to someone else's, you may receive email notifications as other people engage with your content. You may also receive email notifications if you follow other SkinnyScoop members or particular lists. We hope these emails are helpful and let you know when interesting content has been published or when your lists are getting activities. We don't want to overwhelm you with emails and have made it easy for you to opt in or out of any particular kind of email notification.
How do I change my email notifications?
You can change your email notification settings by clicking on the "Settings" link in the upper right corner. Go to the "Notifications" tab to view your options.
PROFILE
How do I change my profile information?
You can update or change your profile information by going to the "Settings" link in the upper right corner. The "Profile" tab within "Settings" will show your current information. Click on the corresponding "change" link, update the information, and click "save."
How do I change my profile image?
You can change your profile image by going to "My Skinny" and clicking on the "Update Picture" link that is under the image. If you do not want a personal image, your image will default to our simple blue line drawing. If you are connected via Facebook Connect, your image may be pulled from Facebook.
