I started SkinnyScoop shortly after having my second child. As I reflect back on my decision to start a family and my choice to go the entrepreneurial route, I realize there are many similarities. Here are 5 things I learned from both experiences.

  • No Book Will Give You *The* Answer

Eden Godsoe says: "I know would-be entrepreneurs who spent months, even years, writing business plans. I know women who read every parenting and baby book years before planning for a family. The bottomline is no one person nor resource is going to tell you when the time is right or provide answers to all your questions. You just have to do it...take the leap!"
  • It Will Take Over Your Life

Eden Godsoe says: "I have worked long hours in past jobs and had many outside interests as well as a pretty active social life. Starting a business and having a child changes everything. I go to bed thinking about SkinnyScoop and my children, I dream about them, I wake up worrying about them. SkinnyScoop is my 3rd child and my children are my life."
  • Things Will Not Go According To Plan

Eden Godsoe says: "Your product will not launch on time; your son will not start walking when your friend's child starts; users will find new and compelling ways to use your product; your daughter will delight you with her love of LEGOs and math. There will be both downside and upside surprises. Embrace and learn from it all."
  • It's An Emotional Roller Coaster

Eden Godsoe says: "I've seen some friends really struggle when they became moms. And I had heard the start-up roller coaster analogy. Lucky for me I thrive on being busy and I love roller coasters! For both SkinnyScoop and family life, it has been important to have people around me to bring me up when I was down and to provide stability."
  • Team Is Everything

Eden Godsoe says: "At SkinnyScoop, it all came together when I found the right team. On the homefront, I could never have taken on motherhood without my husband and our support system of friends, family and caregivers. Take the time to find the right people and don't hesitate to change things if someone is not working out. Bring on the A Team!"
