If you can't get enough of Downton Abbey, if you need more great actors like Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern, if you yearn for more drama and intrigue, then here is a list of movies you must watch.

The Remains Of The Day

Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson star in this moving story of a butler's steely devotion to his master and the high-spirited young woman who threatens to crack his reserve.

One of my all-time favorites. Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson at their best. Without giving too much away - get ready for some heartbreak.

Howard's End

Howards End is E.M. Forster's beautifully subtle story of the crisscrossing paths of the privileged and those they disdain--and of a remarkable pair of women who can see beyond class distinctions. Dramatic and tragic, but also surprisingly funny,

One of my husband's top 5 films of all time (and he's seen a lot.) Funny and tragic at the same time, Howards End focuses on the priviledged Edwardian class, those they looked down on and an unlikely friendship.

Gosford Park

Directed by Robert Altman. With Maggie Smith, Ryan Phillippe, Michael Gambon, Kristin Scott Thomas. Multiple storylined drama set in 1932, showing the lives of upstairs guest and downstairs servants at a party in a country house in England.

This all-star cast, including Maggie Smith, make this one hell of a movie. Very Downton Abbey-ish with the interplay of upstairs and downstairs.

Kristina: This is my favourite movie. I have watched it countless times. i always find somethign new to love about it.

Eden Godsoe: I need to rewatch ia gain some time soon. I've only seen it a few times and it really is so-so-so good. As is Remains of the Day though it makes me sad.

One of my all time favorite books and the movie is pretty good too. Taking place around the same time as Downton Abbey but focused on the privileged class and snobbery in America.

A Room With a View

Nominated for eight Oscars in 1986, including Best Picture, and winner of three (Costumes, Art Direction and Adapted Screenplay), A Room With a View is the film that defined Merchant-Ivory as the masters of the romantic period piece. A brilliant...

A little different but with much of the same feel - a young couple in love with the backdrop of early Edwardian life, emotional repression and class divisions.

A Passage to India

Judy Davis, Dame Peggy Ashcroft, James Fox, Sir Alec Guinness, Nigel Havers. Directed by David Lean. Epic film following the journeys of a young English woman and her mother-in-law-to-be in late-1920s India.

Not exactly the same but close enough if you've seen my other recommendations and a good movie nonetheless. Faithful in its adaptation of E.M. Forster's novel, the movie focuses on British racism in colonial India.

Cold Comfort Farm

Kate Beckinsale, Ian McKellen, Joanna Lumley. She discovered a new branch of her family tree; unfortunately it's the one with all the nuts! The heartwarming, satirical tale of a young orphaned society woman who leaves the trappings of London for her...

It takes place in England though a little later than when Downton Abbey takes place. Much more fun/funny than DA too.

One of the greatest love stories of all time, Pride & Prejudice, comes to the screen in a glorious new adaptation starring Keira Knightley. When Elizabeth Bennett (Knightley) meets the handsome Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen), she believes he is the...
