August 26 is Women' Equality Day marking the anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. Women haven't achieved true equality yet, but we've come a long way in 91 years. Here are some ways we can continue to support women and honor the work of the those who came before us.

  • Know your history.

The National Women's History Museum s dedicated to reclaiming the missing half of history - women's history.

Hello Ladies says: "We can't rely on the history books to learn about the contribution of women. Luckily, there are resources dedicated to telling our stories too."
    • Krista: As a US History major, I really appreciate this. Knowing is half the battle!
  • Support The Healthy Families Act

The Healthy Families Act ensures Americans have paid sick time.

Hello Ladies says: "Working mothers need workplace flexibility to address their own health needs and the needs of their families."
  • Support the Paycheck Fairness Act

The Paycheck Fairness Act will prohibit employers from retaliating against workers for sharing salary information with their co-workers and establish training groups to help women strengthen their negotiation skills.

Hello Ladies says: "Women earn, on average, just .77 cents for every dollar a man earns. Not okay. We deserve equal pay for equal work."
  • Tell the US to ratify CEDAW

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is an international agreement that affirms principles of fundamental human rights and equality for women around the world.

Hello Ladies says: "The CEDAW agreement was adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly and entered into force in 1981. Only seven countries have not ratified - including the United States."
  • Run for office

The White House Project's Go Run is a weekend long training dedicated to equipping women with the skills to run and win. Go Run focusing on communications, fundraising, and campaigning skills.

Hello Ladies says: "Women represent 50 percent of the population but only 17 percent of Congress. We need a better balance in Washington."
    • Eden Godsoe: I agree 100%. I really wish more women ran for office. Our country is 50% women & women often have a different perspective on things. Not to mention I think women make better politicians anyway.
  • Register a friend to vote.

Check out this state-by-state resource on how to register.

Hello Ladies says: "Of course you're already registered to vote. Why not encourage a friend or neighbor to register?"
  • Help a woman in need.

Make a donation and help stop domestic violence.

Hello Ladies says: "One in four women will experience domestic violence. Victims need financial assistance to gain freedom. Parents need support to protect their children. Non-profit organizations need funds for education and legislation to keep victims safe."
  • Attend an event.

Attorney General of Massachusetts Martha Coakley is hosting a celebration including the Release of the Boston Women’s Heritage Trail HerStory Map & Honoring of the Paget Family, Founders of the Historic Public Garden Swan Boats

Hello Ladies says: "This event should be inspiring, informative and family friendly. Planned activities include 50 cent Swan Boat Rides and Children’s Craft Area – Make Your Own “Votes for Women” Sash."
    • Krista: This is a great suggestion.
