Here's my list of tips and tricks on how-to create an awesome list!

  • Grab Your Readers with a Snappy Headline

Titles are the closest thing us writers have to a “silver bullet.” Don’t waste ‘em. Do you think that Freakonomics would have been a New York Times Bestseller with the title Aberrational Behavior and the Causal Effect of Incentives? On average, 8 out of 10 people will read headline copy, but only 2 out of 10 will read the rest.

Larissa says: "It’s a blogosphere favorite for good reason — “list” content works, in large part due to the attention-grabbing power of the headline."
  • Make it Personal

Larissa says: "People are reading your list because they want to hear your opinions so use lists to share your best/worst of, top 10s, favorites, recommendations, and anything that tickles your fancy."
  • Why is it List Worthy?

Larissa says: "Tell people why the item belongs on your list -- people want your opinion so provide them with your colorful commentary!"
  • Build Up Your Lists

Larissa says: "Sometimes, size does matter. We have found that people tend to prefer longer lists. So....don't be shy and add all the items you can think of and, feel free to keep updating and addiing to your lists so people come back."
  • A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Larissa says: "People love eye candy,, so be sure to include photos to make your lists more visually appealing and inviting. You can upload or use a photo from another website."
  • Link to the source

Larissa says: "Where can people find this item? Include a URL making it easier to find the article, buy the product or get more information on the thing you're sharing."
  • Publish It!

Larissa says: "After you're done adding items and editing your list, publish your list and share your genius with the world!"
  • Share with Friends

Larissa says: "Now that your list is published, don't forget to get the word out and share with your friends."
  • Don't forget your Facebook friends...

Larissa says: "and pals on Twitter, Tumblr and all your favorite social sites."
