Ready to start your baby on solids? This is an exciting time for both of you! The best first foods for your baby are brown rice baby cereal or easy-to-digest, non-allergenic fruits and veggies. The texture should be very smooth and creamy. Start with a teaspoon of puree and soon your baby will be gobbling up tablespoons and then ounces! Here are a few great first foods to start your baby's culinary journey!

  • Sweet Potato

Liza Huber, Sage Spoonfuls says: "In addition to being easy to digest and non-allergenic, sweet potatoes are nutritional powerhouses. They are full of disease fighting carotenes and antioxidants. Sweet potato puree has a creamy, sweet flavor that makes a great staple in your baby's diet. There are different varieties with the orange colored yam being the most popular."
    • Scarlet: The "Petite Models" you feature in your various outlets, are absolutely adorable!
  • Banana

Liza Huber, Sage Spoonfuls says: "A mashed banana is one of the best first foods for your baby. It is full of nutrients, is easy to digest, and is non allergenic. Bananas are binding and can be helpful when your baby has diarrhea. The best part is that they don't need to be cooked, simply mash with the back of a fork until smooth and creamy!"
  • Peas

Liza Huber, Sage Spoonfuls says: "Pea puree is a great first food. It tastes delicious, is not allergenic and is easy to digest. Peas are also packed with nutrients and disease fighting antioxidants. I like using frozen peas, because they are just as nutritious as fresh, but without the hassle of having to de-shell."
    • Scarlet: This maybe your best list by far! The abundance of detail, useful tidbits and anecdotes, made this list a very fun, easy and informative read that I thoroughly enjoyed!
    • Scarlet: How about corn kernels? They seem to be comparable to peas and are supposedly, fiber rich as well, right?
  • Butternut Squash

Liza Huber, Sage Spoonfuls says: "Butternut Squash puree is a wonderful first food for your baby. It has a mild, sweet taste, is not allergenic and is easy to digest. Butternut squash is particularly delicious when roasted. This puree is full of nutrients, especially vitamin A, making it great for your baby's eyesight. It can also be soothing if your baby has an upset stomach."
  • Pear

Liza Huber, Sage Spoonfuls says: "Pear puree makes a great first food-it has a naturally sweet flavor and soft texture that babies love. It is easy to digest and is not allergenic. This puree is high in fiber and can be helpful when your baby is constipated. It can also be helpful and soothing if your baby has acid reflux. Bartlett pears are my favorite!"
    • Scarlet: Do you plan on writing a sequel to your 1st book? Your knowledge, passion and expertise of the subject matter is very impressive. It would be a shame if you did not apply your ever growing repertoire to new ventures.
    • Scarlet: These nuances on pears that you are sharing I find most intriguing especially given that my 5 year old has acid reflux and does get constipated. The pediatrician merely writes scripts and recommends milk of magnesia or pepto for the reflux and prunes for the constipation. We will have to try the pear route, she is not to fond of prunes. Do have any nuances on prunes?
