Wine Review: Gnarly Head Ole Vine Zin 2009 - $10

On the nose this Zin is oaky, peppery and has an aroma of dark chocolate spiced with bitter coffee. It’s actually quite complex on the palate and I had to shut my eyes for a moment and take a few sips to get everything right in my head. Read more...

Claudia: This one sounds great!

40-Something Life: Wine Review… Bonterra Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Mendocino-Lake County

A wonderful organic wine find at a great price.

If you love spicy reds this one is perfect for you.

40-Something Life: 'Tis the Season... Let's Talk Bubbly...

Champagne invokes a vivacious, fun, social and elegant taste to any celebration. I love this little sparkling number that instills happiness in me with every sip. Champagne represents a celebration of life whether that be a birthday, a wedding, a holiday party or a Thursday.

40-Something Life: Wine Review… Costarosa Sangue di Giuda dell'oltrepo Pavese, Lombardia, Italy...

Powerfully sweet on the palate and almost chewy – a complete surprise to me. I expected dryness and less fruit, however there were distinct tastes of strawberries, sweet black fruits and with just a tickle of fizz.

Isn’t it funny how something you initially are not sure of, you learn to like a lot and I did. Maybe I need to apply this logic to dating :). Or perhaps not, too much sweetness might just be too much… at least all of the time.

40-Something Life: Wine Review... Carlos Serres Rioja Crianza 2008 ...

Aromas are deliciously strong even before you get your nose to the glass. Pleasantly spicy with a light bouquet of dark chocolate and ripened cherries.

Anyone who enjoys smooth fruity reds will love this wine.

40-Something Life: Wine Review… Toasted Head Untamed Red 2007

There are aromas of over ripe sweet dark cherries and chocolate with a dash of pepper and hint of burnt wood. At first it is mild on the palate and then an almost sour bite of berries.

A perfect wine to pair with a hit TV show like Revenge!

40-Something Life: Wine Review... Cakebread Chardonnay Reserve 2009, Napa Valley...

Deliciously intensive with sweet fruits of ripe apple and nectarine. This Chardonnay is heady decadence and absolutely my type of chardonnay with a long, lingering finish that adds a distinct dryness to the tongue and makes you want more.

As good as it gets for a Chardonnay

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Anthony Nappa Anomaly Pinot Noir 2011, New York

Aromas of flowers, mostly roses at first sniff followed by a freshness of sweet red grapes. On the palate there is a sharpness that bites on the tongue with tangs of grapefruit that is so fresh, it is almost like having a glass of crisp flavored water. It is a refreshing wine, which is a little unusual. You almost want to gulp it like juice.

Such an exciting find for a summer wine that is a little different!

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Sterling Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Napa Valley

The immediate aroma is mothy and pungent. However, the initial taste on the palate is quite brilliant and sharply zesty with hints of apricot and pear. It continues to be very sharp on the palate with citrus bursts and is surprising lovely continuing with flavors of cantaloupe, and honeydew melon. The finish is sharp and immediate beckoning you

One of my favorite summer wines!

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Medlock Ames Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Alexander Valley, CA

Immediately sharp with tastes of citrus fruits, then sweet. This wine tastes slightly oaked with a buttery after taste. Such an interesting Sauvignon Blanc. If I didn't know better and this was a blind tasting, I would immediately guess Chardonnay. The finish is sharp then smooth then a lovely creamy sweet ending.

A delicious summer wine.

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Found Object Syrah 2010 - Colchagua Valley, Chile

A mildly spicy aroma with a sweetness of red cherries. Surprisingly a little bit medicinal in aroma, like a light cough syrup but definitely not off-putting. Slightly bold on the palate with a swift kick of fresh, spiced berries and plums and a little bit of anise. Not what I expected from a Syrah but really quite nice. The finish is light but

Great wine at a low price. Check it out at Trader Joe's

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Little Black Dress Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Much like the 2007 it is rich with fruits of ripe cherry and blackberry with a suggestion of spices, however it is a lot more subtle with hints of cream and less chocolate. I like how different vintages can be, it makes life and wine so interesting. On the palate I love the boldness of this wine, less spicy and more fruity than the 2007 I though

A fun reasonably priced wine.

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Found Object Chenin Blanc 2010 Paso Robles CA

A little biting on the palate with flavors of grapefruit and melon. Definitely interesting and rather agreeable. A sharp and final finish on the palate and a very fun, quite jolly wine. After a while the wine develops into a fuller, bolder taste. If a wine can be jolly this one is it! For those who like a slightly a dry and tart wine this is

An outstanding wine for the price of just $6!!!!

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Cono Sur "Bicycle" Carbernet Sauvignon 2010 Chile

sharp peppery spice on the nose with robust aromas of ripe cherries and a petite hint of vanilla – with a such a big aroma I was wondering what it would be like to taste. A swift kick of pepper on the palate with a slightly sweet then sour taste – not unpleasant just a little surprising and intriguing. The second sip brings mild berry tast

A great every day wine!

40-Something Life: Wine Review: St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc 2010 Napa Valley

Bursting with citrus on the nose with aromas of grapefruit and lime and just a hint of honeydew. Zingy and fresh and reminiscent of summer on the palate. Delicious, crisp and given it was 80 degrees in KC it makes me yearn for summer, outdoor dining and drinking with friends. I love this wine! Post a Comment

This wine will remind your of long summer days with friends!

CatK: Sounds right up my alley!

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Indaba Sauvignon Blanc 2010, South Africa...

The Indaba Sauvignon Blanc is relatively clear in color with a slight greenish hue. On the nose it is fresh and clean with subtle hints of pears and tang of grapefruit. On the palate it is just lovely, smooth and full of green fruit flavors of apple, pear, kiwi and gooseberry - really nice. A very nice finish, which meant a very happy Friday.

A fantastic wine at great value of just $8

Eden Godsoe: This sounds amazing - I'll have to try it. I usually stick w/ New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs but need to branch out.

40-Something Life: Wine Review: Dog Point Pinot Noir 2007 Marlborough

Spicy and peppery, somewhat earthy with a hint of chocolate on the nose – a lovely aroma. Very light on the tongue but with a sharp thrill of sweet slightly syrupy prunes. It doesn't stay on the palate too long but has a brusque nice finish.

Pinot Noir lovers will rejoice in this delightful light wine.

Wine Review: Chocolate Shop Wine - Red

Pop Quiz: What’s better than chocolate? Answer… nothing, except if you add it to wine! WHAT DID I SAY? Oh yes, I am not kidding… Chocolate Wine. Who would have thought? Well, someone did and that is the people from Chocolate Shop Wine. After opening the bottle we were immediately overwhelmed with the aroma of chocolate and dark cherries. Ho...

Wine Review: Arona Sauvignon Blanc 2010

A zing of tartness stays with you sip after sip - this is an interesting and easy wine. I think I liked this wine more than most Marlborough wines because it was less agrgressive. I would definitely buy it again for a nice every day wine.

Wine Review: Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Classico 2009 - $20

This Chianti is a gorgeous rich garnet color when you pour. Luscious aromas of deep dark cherries and spicy rich coffee. The wine gives off a ripe sweetness that makes you ponder if it will have a similar taste.

Wine Review: Château Beauchêne Côtes-du-Rhône Grande Réserve 2009 - $14

The initial taste is quite sharp with a bit of a sweet bite. A swift finish meant I needed another sip. check it out...
