At what age is it no longer ok for women to have long hair (when one should cave to the dreaded mom cut!)?

Age 45
Or maybe when it's just not healthy enough to be long any more. Frizzy old-lady hair seems pretty inevitable, even for people who had shiny, straight hair when they were young.
other
I can't imagine you need to ever commit to a stereotypical mom's cut!
Age 45
I don't exactly know - I am currently 40 and still have long hair, I rationalize this with pictures of Demi Moore thinking she is older than me and still has held onto her long locks, it then dawns on me that I bear no resembelance whatsoever to Demi Moore and I am back at the beginning of my quandry. I suspect I am simply too afraid of the "Mom Cut" to do anything about it. I am working towards a chic, sorter-hair approach by the time I hit 45....I think.

Depends upon the person

Some women look great with shoulder length hair that doesn't look so "mom-cut" -ish.
other
Never!
Age 50
And even then, if you have nice hair you should go for it. This is more my plan for myself though I plan on a bob not "mom hair"!
Age 55+
oh God. what a question. can't you have long pretty stylish hair forever?
other
What IS the "dreaded 'mom' cut? I think some much older women (55+) look great with long hair.
other
it's always ok to have the hair you want...i don't think the age thing is kinda a generational hangover
other
I think women can choose whatever hair style they want at any age.
other
fight the mom cut...i don't think getting a cut that you dread is appropriate at any age...
other
I think you can always have long hair if it looks OK. But for most people, probably around 50 would be a good time to move to something shorter.
other
Long hair forever!!!
other
You should never HAVE to get that haircut if you don't want it.
other
Whaaat? I can't believe some people are answering 45 - I am 47 and my hair is one of my best features. I'm going with 60+. Final Answer.
Age 40
so I don't think you have to have a full on 'mom cut' but I do think that you should keep your hair roughly w/in range of the collar bone by this age.
other
No one should feel the need to cut their hair if they don't want to.
other
I plan on having long hair the rest of my life. I think there are some older woman with long grey hair that look very stylish.
other
I'm only 21, and I've already traded in my long tresses for a shorter, more managable hair cut. I wouldn't say I've got a mom cut, but it definitely makes being a mom easier sometimes not having to deal with so much hair!
other
you should never have to unless you want to
other
Never! Death first please :)
other
never

Whenever the ability to keep the hair healthy looking begins to fail it is time for "the cut"; but in my opinion, women 50+ tend to look better in shorter hair.
other
There is no age limit on having long hair.
other
You can always have long hair. It is just as easy to put it up as it is to get it cut.
other
I believe it's a personal choice that should be based on your wants. There is no certain age though it may be more practical at some point.
other
i don't think there is an age. if it looks good on you then keep it. if it doesn't or you can't maintain it's time for a new do
other
When ever it is best for you and what you want!
other
There should not be a hair police or anyone else pushing their ideas off on others. Keep your long hair for as long as you want and for as long as it works for you.
other
I think it's always ok to have long hair! Provided you can still take care of it of course.
other
I don't think you ever have to have the "dreaded mom cut". You can consult your stylist for an easy long hair style to allow you to keep your locks and stay active as a mom.
other
Do what you please, you should never cut your hair because everyone else thinks it's age appropriate!
Age 55+
What do you consider long hair? My mom will be 49 in 2011 and she is cute as ever with her shoulder length hair. My MIL is close to 55 with shoulder length hair as well; and it's cute. I'd have to say over 55 for sure, if not older.
other
I don't think there is a "certain" age. I did it this past year at age 29 and I absolutely love it!! So much easier!! I really don't think I will ever go back to long hair!
other
I think long hair is fine at any age, so long as it is well-maintained.
other
I don't think there is any specific age. As long as it looks good and the woman feels comfortable I am open to any style!
other
NEVER
other
Mom can have long hair as long as they want!
other
long hair rocks- even when you're 80.
other
That should be up to the woman, not to busybodies around her.
other
The time to shorten hair -- which is not required as you age -- depends on the hair cut they currently have.
