I'd say its about 5 hours per month if averaged over the entire year. I sit on the development committee for my son's preschool & so leading up to the annual fundraising auction I spend more like 3 hrs/week or 12+ hrs/month but that isn't all year round. As someone who works 80+ hrs per week & also sits on 2 other NPO boards, I just don't have the bandwidth to give that much time so I try to make the time I do give back very high impact - namely that we raise a ton of money.

I used to volunteer when he went to a church preschool but the one he attends now doesn't need volunteers.

Luckily, our preschool does not do much fundraising. We donated large items for the auction. I am not currently on any committees.
16-20 hours / month
I am a class parent for one class and on the school board for another, so it adds up!

This is all quite new to me but because I am not a "pick up at 3:30 Mommy" and feel guilty that my kids go to extended care I thought being on a Parents Committee would be a good idea...WRONG...I got hog-tied into being on a fundraising luncheon committee and these chicks clearly don't have FT jobs because time- management is an issue. There are HOURS spent discussing who can get floral arrangements donated and where to do the Mimosa station. Once this is done I am back to buying wrapping paper, cookie dough & christmas decorations to support my kids education!! I am now officially on-side with my huband's theory which is "my support of my kids elementary education is having my five digit cheque clear". Cynical but kinda true.
