In both cases we took it away at 2 yrs right after our first dentist visit. They were not big pacifier users - just nighttime going to bed & never daytime once they were 1+ yrs old. However our dentist pointed out how it was affecting their bite so I was able to use that w/ my kids to say "the dentist said bye bye to pacifier." I was honestly surprised at how easy it was.

He stopped using it around the age of 1 - so we didn't have to do anything.

I kept trying to take it away but gave in at night when I had too little patience!

A pacifier is known as a "cuccia" in my house and upon turning two the "cuccia" fairies came and gave it to another baby girl who needed it. We put it in a gift bag and hung it on the door-knob...the whole deal. Regardless, the first night was hell but it went pretty easily after that. My eldest, my son, never had one.
