Yes, but o...
I will pretty much accept friend requests from anyone. My husband calls me a Facebook whore but for me I find it an easy way to stay in touch w/ people. I have turned down a few where I absolutely did not know the person. I wouldn't expect to be FB friends w/ my kids' teachers but if they requested & are ok sharing w/ me, then I am ok w/ that. I think many times the teachers don't want to be friends w/ the parents because they do have a life outside the classroom & may not want parents seeing photos of them partying or talking about a rough day.
No, I thin...
I'm a teacher! I think it would be weird if my students' parents friended me...
Depends on...
But more than likely, I would wait until after my child has moved on from their class. I'm actually friends with a few of the sitters that we use, and I sometimes feel a little uncomfortable with their status updates (not about partying/drinking/whatever, but because some of them make clear that we decidedly do not share the same political philosophies - but I'm ultimately OK with that, as long as they're competent to care for my children). If I did end up as FB friends with one of my kids' teachers, I would probably set my privacy so that s/he couldn't see my status updates or other information - in other words, I would do it so that I could send her/him an e-mail or message if necessary, but nothing else (which is what I do with our sitters, friends of my parents who have friended me, and some others).

probably not a teacher but I do friend a lot of my college age babysitters.
No, I thin...
Feels inappropriate. And is probably against our school's policy, come to think of it.

I can see how it would blur the boundaries for some people - I don't really have a lot going on on my facebook page. My child's 60 year old preschool teacher friended me after the school year ended...I couldn't say no! :-)

VERY unlikely.
