I wouldn't take my kids to Puerto Rico. They rank pretty high in the world for child trafficking.

If you are looking for quiet off the beaten path, try going where the locals go, the island of Vieques. We stayed at The Crows Nest Guesthouse and Villas. Rent a car and drive to the beach where wild horses can be seen walking into the ocean to cool off. Go night kayaking to see the bioluminescence in one of the few places in the world you can see this. Little glow in the dark micro organisms glowing on your arms as you swim in the ocean. Very cool. This is not an island of getting pampered, but to get away from crowds and enjoy. The Crows Nest was very clean and hospitable. They have a nice restaurant too at the Crows Nest.
