We just began kindergarten but I found that in the first week all the meetings or educational seminars (3 in the first 4 days of school) were scheduled between 8:30 - 5:30. As a working mom, I was a little bummed as I want to socialize w/ the other parents & be active at my child's school. I assume other working moms have this problem. And most dads as well. Hopefully this is just the first week & that future meetings are scheduled at times when more of us can participate.
Yes
it drives me nuts, so I have suggested having conference calls after bed time- if I lead the event, idea, then I can have input on the time of hte meeting.
Yes
About half and half.
No
Our school tries to offer an even mix of meetings during workday hours (but usually first thing in the morning) and evenings. For the evening events, they often offer on site child care so that you don't have to get a babysitter.
Yes
Frequently! And then they complain that the same people show up for everything - because those are the only people who can participate!
No
Meetings with teachers are usually during the day, but for things like PTA, etc, they are usually at night or on weekends. Sometimes as it gets closer to an event, there might be one, but it's the exception and not the norm.
Yes
However, most of these kinds of meetings are often held first thing in the morning. Much information is communicated, in detail, through the school's website. And they provide on-site childcare for the quarterly parent/teacher conferences, which is a godsend.
