Have you taken your kids camping (tents, sleeping bags, etc.)? If so, what age did you start?

My husband would say "no, you have got to be kidding me" but I would love to go camping w/ them. Just 1 night & somewhere that still has some amenities. Our youngest just turned 3 so I think we've got 2+ years before we will actually try.

We just got back from a weekend camping trip for Labor Day weekend and had a blast. Our first trip was when our kids were 3 and 5.

I had wanted to take my son (age 3) this summer, but never got around to it. We will hopefully make a few camping trips next summer!

You wouldn't catch me anywhere near a campground. I am not an outside girl unless it on a beach chair by the beach with a Mai Tai and a book. :D

We are talking tent, sleeping bag, food in cooler. Don't ever camp before or on spring break. We got snowed on during our 1st camping trip for spring break with 20 mile/hr winds. We broke our tent down the next day and went home. But, since then we have camped in the summer at the lake in a tent with 3 kids and a dog two years in a row. Add in fishing and boating. Kids had a blast.

3 months old for each. Mind you, it's car camping. We drive our equipment in and set up tent at the campsite. We grill food just as we do at home. Lots of cabernet sauvignon and so forth. As they get older and stronger, we gradually increase the amount we expect them to carry. By the time the older one is in middle school I expect them to be able to pack it in, pack it out, and be competent outdoors. Leave No Trace. This way I can return to the Wind River Range in Wyoming, asap!
