And to be honest, I have thought about it more than once, what with two "spirited" children.
Yes
It is not in my policy or plan to spank my child, but it has happened 2-3 times when I have lost my temper.
No
but I've wanted to! :)
No
I'm not opposed to it ...but she's only 18 months. We just had our first "time out" last week!
Yes
My kids have both gotten a swat on the bottom. It has probably happened twice but it got to a point where the negotiating and the time outs weren't working. The shock of it pretty much did the trick.
Yes
When did parents abandon spanking for lollipops? Spanking is not abuse.
Yes
When I was a child, my mom would spank us with the wooden spoon. That was not abuse, that was laying down the law. I showed respect to my mother because I knew she had the upper hand. Now that I am a mother, I thought I would be able to discipline without spanking but I was wrong. The ironic part is that when I went to spank my child he laughed at me. I might have to invest in some wooden spoons! j/k I do believe that spanking is ok when needed and too many children these days have it way too easy and it shows in their behavior.
Yes
Only when all other methods fail.
Yes
I have, but of course I waited until they were old enough to realize why they were getting one. Time outs were never successful for us.
No
I'm really committed to never hitting my kids at all. I'm sure it will be hard, though. I have one daughter (3 years old) who finds timeouts pretty funny. I often struggle to think of appropriate punishments. Taking away stuffed animals is almost too effective. The wounded, grief-stricken look on her face is heartbreaking.
Yes
Yes, I swat my children's' tushes when I deem it the appropriate way to handle a situation. Time outs work with one, swats/spanks work with the other.
No
I have not yet spanked but I am not philosophically opposed to it either. I was spanked (wooden spoon on the hand mostly) as a child and it did the job...I changed my behavior pretty darn quickly.
Yes
I have spanked both my boys. I have also used timeout, or taking things away. It depends on why they need to be corrected. I do not think that everything deserves the same correction.
Yes
We spank both of our boys (2 1/2 years and 17 months) when appropriate, like this afternoon when my eldest ran away from in the driveway and did not stop when I told him to as he headed for the street. I was spanked as a child and never suffered more than a bruised ego and a stinging tukkis. I have brothers that are many years younger than I am and the pediatrician told my mother to use a wooden spoon to spank them because they were such hefty boys.
Yes
I believe spanking your child is neccessary. Children these days think they can just over power there parents by doing what ever and how ever and in my house it aint happening I brought you into this world i will spank and displine you how I see fit depending on the circumstances.
Yes
If They don't Learn it while they are young that punishment comes with Bad behavior the cops will bake sure they know or they will learn it in Jail and I am damn sure not letting any one of my three kids end up in that situation their should be a limit to spanking I too was spanked as a child and @ school nun the less lol and when did that go out the door I know when I was a kid we respected Our teachers and Principal because respect was expected and now days kids hit kick spit and for god sakes shoot their parents and teachers WTH ?????
Yes
I spanked my son twice: when he was toddler and ran out into the street and (also, as a toddler) he took a hard object and whacked it against a floor to ceiling glass window (which thankfully did not break). I felt both incidents required a instant and shocking response and that was all I could think of. I just knew I NEVER wanted him to do those things again. And I have no regrets about either situation.
Yes
I think this should be very small.
