It’s been two decades since a flaky and fearless leading character named Cher in the hit film Clueless charmed the viewers and won our hearts blissfully. At that time, many of us thought the career of Alicia Silverstone who played the role had won a permanent place in the spotlight and that she was going to be Hollywood’s next big in-demand star. However, she didn’t get much luck to enjoy all the fame she gained having seemingly disappeared for so long from public eyes. So where is she now? Find out everything about the beauty, and her current position in Hollywood.
Alicia Silverstone’s Biography
Alicia was born on October 4, 1976, and was raised in Califonia by father Monty Silverstone who worked as an English real estate agent while her mother worked as a Scottish pan AM Flight attendant. She was raised in Jewish beliefs which was her father’s religion, but Alicia later changed to Conservative Judaism because of her mother. She has two elder siblings, a brother named David Silverstone and a half-sister from her father’s former marriage named Kezi Silverstone. She schooled in Crocker Middle School and then San Mateo High School.
As a six-year-old child, Silverstone started her career in the modeling industry before moving to TV commercials, working for big brands like Dominos Pizza. She caught the passion for acting in her teens and at age 17 she made her debut in the film The Crush (1993).
The show was successful and earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. However, her big fame came when she appeared in the film Clueless in 1995 with bigger opportunities flooding in including a chance to star in Batman which many said brought her career a grim fate.
Nonetheless, she made a comeback after the role with an appearance in 2003 NBC series Miss Match (2003) for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress -Television Series Musical or Comedy. Since then, she has stayed away and the little prominence she gathered in the 1990s seems to have dried up.
Where Is She Now?
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Alicia Silverstone is Clueless Valley Girl Cher, the beautiful blonde girl with big, gentle, dark eyes that became extremely popular in Bronson Alcott High School for her wealth and looks. Or possibly her role as Batgirl, in Batman and Robin, a role people assume brought bad luck to her career. Beyond these roles, you might have trouble remembering anything she has done since then. And what’s more surprising is that her career seemed to have had a flourishing tendency then but instead, her chances dwindled.
Question is, where has she been for over 2 decades now? While many blame her role in Batman for ruining Silverman’s and her co-star Chris O’Donnell’s careers, the actress’ long absence from Hollywood is solely her decision.
Yes, she won the Razzie for Worst Supporting Actress for that role but her success was cut short for many other reasons. First, the fame was too much for the woman whose biggest career dream was just to be in theatre and not in movies. She described herself as a theatre girl in an interview and revealed she didn’t have the drive to compete for TV fame.
Secondly, she wanted to use her fame to save the world, especially animals and children rather than joining the glam and glitz bandwagon. This is why she is more actively involved in environmental and animal rights activism than acting, noting that she vowed to use her fame to do something useful for the world.
Nevertheless, the actress didn’t throw away her acting career entirely even though she has lost her initial big success. She suddenly seems to be everywhere in the movies now though none compares to the success she saw in the early days of her career. Some of her recent works include a supporting role in 2004’s Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, a teacher in The Art of Getting By (2011), and a minor role in Stormbreaker (2006).
In recent years, she has appeared in over 15 films and TV shows including The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), The Tribes of Palos (2017), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul etc. She has also made numerous TV appearances since the 2000s some of which include the 2001 cartoon series Braceface, Suburgatory, a and host of others.
Not long ago, she launched her TV work, a comedy series titled American Woman on US network TV Land, loosely based on the life of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards. But the show was canceled after its first series. Depressing as this may seem, Alicia Silverstone is now focusing on her upcoming projects and has promised fans that they will be seeing more of her these days.
Husband, Son, Kids
Alicia is currently single and eligible to mingle. She and her husband Christopher Jarecki of since 1997 recently parted ways. The two ex-lovers first met outside a movie theater and began dating immediately. After eight years of relationship within which they were engaged for a year, they walked down the aisle in 2005 at a glamorous outdoor event that took place at Lake Tahoe. The interesting thing about their engagement was that Silverstone received Jarecki’s grandmother’s ring. In 2011, Silverstone gave birth to their son and it appeared the couple was as in love as they were on the first day. But the duo shocked the world with the news of their separation and divorce in February 2018. Alicia filed for divorce in May 2018 and is happy chasing her dream.
