Family: Mom, Dad

Amy was basically raised in a Jewish home by her mother after her divorce from Gordon David – her dad.  Gordon who is from Ukraine happens to be a first cousin to Chuck Schumer, a highly respected Senator of U.S.

Her mother, Sandra Jane, however, is from a Protestant background and deep England descent. Her origin included Puritans in the 17th-century English colony of Massachusetts. She was not Jewish but started practicing the religion after her marriage to Amy’s dad.

Amy family was really wealthy, so she lived a luxury life to the fullest as a child thanks to the fortune amassed by father’s baby-furniture company named Schumer’s household. The company which was based in Manhattan boomed significantly and made life easy for the entire family. Her mother served as a board member at a Reform synagogue in Rockville center named Central Synagogue of Nassau County.

Unfortunately, the company ran out of business, throwing Amy’s father to bankruptcy by the time she was nine. Around that time, David fell sick and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord.  Years later, her parents separated which bestowed the responsibility of catering for her and her sister on her single mother. This kicked off tough days that made her become aware of the need to be successful. Thankfully, now she is living a better life than she has ever had.
