Did Addison Rae Get Banned on TikTok For Twerking? Here are Facts

Addison Rae got banned from TikTok for twerking in 2022. However, the ban did not last long, as her TikTok account was restored about a day later, and the slightly provocative video of her shaking her behind was left untouched.

The People’s Choice Awards nominated influencer, who was named as the highest-earning TikTok personality by Forbes in 2020, made this known via her Twitter handle.

According to the screenshot she posted on Twitter, Addison received a notification saying, “Your account was permanently banned due to multiple violations of our Community Guidelines. You can download your data.” Besides her TikTok career, Rae is also an actress, dancer, and singer.

Addison Rae’s TikTok was Banned Over a Twerking Video

Addison Rae took to Twitter on April 12, 2022, to announce that she was banned from TikTok, the social media platform that brought her so much fame and fortune.

In the post that included a screenshot of the notification that said, “Your account was permanently banned due to multiple violations of our Community Guidelines. You can also download your data,” she wrote: “I knew I should’ve deleted the twerking video” followed by a few crying emojis.

According to the community guidelines, the social media platform can ban an account if it posts violent, illegal, sexual, or graphic content. An account can also be banned if it is found to engage in spammy activity or is reported by users as spam. TikTok does not “tolerate activities that perpetuate the abuse, harm, endangerment, or exploitation of minors” and content that depicts “abuse, exploitation or nudity.”

It is unclear how Addison’s video falls into any of these categories. The twerking video in question that caused the controversy started with an electronic voice saying, “when he says he’ll take you to Cabo.” The camera then moves to capture swimming pools in what looked like a resort before focusing on Ms. Rae, who wore a white dress.

Addison subsequently began twerking aggressively on a couch while looking away from the camera. She twerked to a song by Joseline Fernandez titled “I Wanna Ride” before stopping and smiling at the camera as the video ended.

How Long Did Addison Rae’s Tiktok Ban Last?

Addison’s TikTok ban lasted only one day. The TikTok star must have wondered what she would do with her life seeing that the career she was building in Hollywood was based on her fame on TikTok.

Fortunately, about a day later, her TikTok was back and active. The twerking video that led to her ban was also not touched and can still be viewed on the platform today. Neither TikTok nor Addison has confirmed the exact reason for her temporary ban.

Reactions to the Video and Her Ban From TikTok

After the video that she captioned “I’m just joking lol haha” went live, followers of the social media influencer were quick to comment on it. Many people were confused about why Addison chose to put out a twerking video.

General consensus was that she must have been heavily intoxicated when she made the video as she only just turned 21 years old (the legal drinking age in the United States) in October 2021.

But while people pondered what her frame of mind was when she posted such a video, it was surprising to see that there was nothing explicit you would not find in many other videos on the platform. In this regard, one user tweeted: “I see people dancing in bikinis & twerking on TikTok & they haven’t gotten banned why Addison is the only one to get banned.”

It must be noted that this is not the first time that Addison Rae has been banned from TikTok. In 2021, she received a similar “permanent ban” that lasted for only a few hours. Like she did with her most recent ban, she revealed it on Twitter with the caption: “Time to get a job.”

The exact video she posted that led to the ban is unknown, but the last video uploaded to the platform before she was notified of the ban had her dancing in a short blue dress.
