Gabrielle Union’s Biography and Age

Daughter to Sylvester and Teresa Union, Gabrielle Monique Union-Wade was born on October 29, 1972, in the great city of Omaha, Nebraska but her family moved to Pleasanton, California where she began her education at Foothill High School. After her graduation, Gabrielle moved on to study at the University of Nebraska where she also joined the varsity’s soccer team but after a short time, she moved to Cuesta College and finally, ended up in UCLA, where she graduated with a degree in Sociology.

Gabrielle Union was a victim of rape. At the age of 19, she was attacked and raped by a robber while she was working part-time selling shoe store. This almost shattered her dream in life but with the help and support from her family, she was able to pull through.

She started acting in the late 90’s with her first audition being for the American sitcom Saved by the Bell. Other films she featured in at the early stage of her career include She’s All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Love & Basketball. One of her biggest roles, however, was in City of Angels, a medical drama series where she starred as Dr. Courtney Ellis. Ever since then, the film star has featured in hundreds of films and TV series thereby leaving an unforgettable mark in the entertainment industry.

As an author, Gabrielle Union wrote her very first book which she titled We’re Going to Need More Wine and it was published in  December 2017 by Dey Street Books. The book won the ‘Best Book of the Year by a Black Author”.

Union was raised as a Roman Catholic by her parents who also taught her to be self-dependent. She has two sisters and her father Sylvester E. Union is a military sergeant while her mother Theresa is a social worker and a manager at a phone company. Their parents ended their three-decades-long marriage but still maintain a cordial relationship for the love of their children. Despite her parent’s separation, Union and her siblings never lacked parental love, care, and support from any of them. “They’re pretty awesome. I’m lucky” Union said in an interview.

Gabrielle Union has been married twice. Her first was with an NFL player Chris Howard.  She met Howard at a party in 1999, after her severed relationship with her high school sweetheart and basketball player Jason Kidd. Union married Howard on May 5, 2001, but she divorced him in October 2005.

It took Gabrielle union four years to meet Dwyane Wade, another NBA player. They started dating in 2009 but separated briefly due to Wade’s demanding career only to return together in 2013. They got engaged and eventually married in Miami, Florida, on August 30, 2014. During an interview with a popular media house, Union admitted that she had rushed into relationships in the past and they were mostly for the wrong reasons. Gabrielle currently has no child of her own. She confirmed that she has fertility issues. She is, however, a stepmother to three children belonging to her newly-married husband.
