Kelly Clarkson is one of American Idol’s spectacular winners just like Carrie Underwood. In fact, she is the first to taste the show’s victory having won its inaugural season in 2002. And unlike many other winners of the talent show that followed behind, she has refused to go extinct from the limelight.
A multiple Grammy awards winner and bagging numerous more awards, the singer has taken over the music industry and it doesn’t look like she is going to slow down. Good enough, it is not just her career that’s blossoming, her love life is as well doing fine. Here’s everything to know about her career and private life.
Kelly Clarkson’s Bio (Age)
Kelly Clarkson was born on April 24, 1982, in Fort Worth Texas. She is of mixed race (Greek, Welsh, Irish, English, Scottish, and German). The musician grew up in a very conservative family that attended Southern Baptist where she led the youth group. Kelly attended Pauline Hughes Middle School and finished from Burleson High School in 2000.
Due to her outstanding musical performances in her school days, she was offered full scholarships to Berklee College of Music, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of North Texas. But she chose not to nab the opportunities to be able to begin a career of her own. With full knowledge of her talent, she began pursuing her musical dreams immediately after high school. She didn’t have to wait for sponsors instead she took up different jobs to fund her musical works.
As time passed, she was able to attract the attention of two recording companies Jive Records and Interscope. Surprisingly, Kelly brushed their offers aside because she didn’t want to be restricted or be put in a box.
She moved to Los Angels and was optimistic that she would get to the musical height she had envisioned. After many discouraging events including blatant turn downs that made her return to Burleson to take up small jobs, her dream came through in 2002 when she won the first season of the TV series American Idol. The victory earned her a better deal with RCA records and since then she has broken different records including being named the artist of the country’s best-selling single in 2002. That single also topped US Billboard Hot 100 and so was her first album Thankful (2003) which charted number 1 on US Billboard 200. In addition to that, her second album Breakaway (2004) sold over 12 million copies globally and won her two Grammy awards.
Thus far, she has up to 8 successful albums and has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. She has also sold over 45 million singles nationwide with 90+ number ones on the US Billboard charts. More than that, Kelly has won several awards outside of the Grammy Awards including 3 MTV Video Music Awards, 4 American Music Awards, and 2 Academy of Country Music Awards.
As well as music, Clarkson has done great for herself in other entertainment fields such as film, TV, and writing. She has written thrilling children’s books and currently serves as a coach on the TV competition series The Voice.
Her Family: Father, Husband, and Children
Clarkson grew up away from a normal family due to her parents’ divorce. She has two siblings, a sister named Alyssa and a brother named Jason. She is the youngest of them all. Her father, Stephen Michael Clarkson was an engineer while her mother Jeanne Ann was a first grade English teacher. After her parent’s separation, she had to stay with her mother while her siblings stayed in different places (one with her dad while the other with her aunt).
There is no much information about Stephen available since he was absent in the songstress’ life except that his separation from her mother which happened when she was only 6 created a vacuum in her life. It is also known that Stephen remarried and his second marriage gave the singer two younger half-brothers. Her mother found love again as well in the arms of a man named Jimmy Taylor. The empty relationship between Clarkson and her father inspired some of her songs such as Piece by Piece, and Because of You.
Clarkson used to be a strict “Miss Independent” with high standards. According to her, she didn’t think she would get married or fall in love due to the high bars she had set in her life. However, when she met Brandon Blackstock who is also active in the music industry, things took a different turn.
The duo first met in 2006 when Clarkson was rehearsing with Rascal Flatts for that year’s ACM Awards and Blackstock was the brand’s manager. Though Blackstock was still married to his first wife at the time, they got talking on a friendship ground. You know the saying “if two hearts are meant to be, no matter how far they go…fate will bring them back together”? This became the couple’s reality when Brandon divorced his wife years later and shortly after that reunited with Kelly Clarkson in 2012 at Super Bowl where Clarkson sang the anthem.
He knew at once she was the one and felt it was the right time to start something sweet with her. Clarkson naturally had to relax her defensive posture and they began dating the same year. In 2013, they decided to make each other their other halves by legalizing their relationship through a marriage that took place at Blackberry Farm in Walland Tennessee.
Their marriage made Clarkson a stepmother to Blackstock’s two children (a daughter and son) from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth. She is also sharing two children with Blackstock, a daughter named River Rose born in 2014 and a son Remington, “Remy” Alexander born in 2016. Apart from being a music manager, Blackstock is also doing great as a pilot.
Interestingly, Kelly Clarkson is among the long list of clients that Brandon Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock is managing their careers. Also, Navel’s ex-wife, Reba McEntire, and Clarkson once sang together – at the American Idol finale in 2002. Reba is also a music manager, so she is no stranger to the Blackstock’s family.
Kelly Clarkson’s Weight
Kelly Clarkson may not have struggled too long to reach the height she is now musically but when it comes to weight, she has tasted sufficient struggles for years, particularly after giving birth to her daughter River in 2014 and her son in 2016.
Fortunately, the battle seems to be over now that she has lost about 40 pounds. It is right to say she weighs at least 15 kg less than what she used to weigh before. Her extreme weight transformation was achieved through healthy meals. She also added minor workout routines to her weekly activities.
