Pablo Escobar may have been popular for the wrong reasons, but only a few would know he was a loving dad for his kids, one of whom is Manuela Escobar. The man dubbed “King of Coke” was known for his drug business across America. As a matter of fact, the drug baron supplied as much as four-fifths of all the cocaine smuggled into America.

In 1985, his illegal business paid-off quite well for him that he was numbered as the seventh richest man in the world with a fortune of about $25 billion. He even made an offer to the Columbian government to pay off the country’s debt in exchange for amnesty.

Things turned around for the Escobar family after the drug lord was shot dead by the Colombian national police in 1993. Every attention was turned to his family, especially his adorable daughter. Let’s take a look into the life of Manuela Escobar, what she has become and all that.

Who Is Manuela Escobar, Daughter of Pablo Escobar?

Manuela Escobar is Pablo Escobar and Maria Victoria Henao’s only daughter. She was born on May 25, 1984, as the youngest of their two children. Her brother’s name is Sebastián Marroquín. Manuela’s father was a Columbian, he was born on 1 December 1949 as the third of seven children of Abel de Jesús Dari Escobar and his wife, Hemilda de los Dolores Gaviria Berrío.

While her father was still alive, Manuela appeared to be his dearest. He was willing to go miles to ensure she lives the life of a princess. In the bid to secure her life from her father’s numerous enemies, Manuela was homeschooled. Pablo’s decision to have her under close watch followed a murder attempt that was made on her life on January 13, 1988. Manuela was spoilt with gifts of all kinds by her doting father who goes to any length to provide anything his two children wished for. He may be the most dreaded narcoterrorists, but at home, he is the most caring father. A father who would do anything to keep his family happy and comfortable.

During one of her birthdays, she requested for a unicorn as her birthday gift and her caring father went as far as turning a live horse into a Unicorn by stapling a cow’s horn on its forehead and adding wings on its two sides. In another scenario, he reportedly set $2 million worth of cash ablaze just to keep his ailing daughter warm as she suffered from hypothermia. It was also reported that Pablo ordered one of his mistresses to abort his child just to keep his promise to his daughter that she would be the last of his last child.

Where Is She Now?

Life changed for Manuela, her older sibling, and her mother Maria after their most loving father and husband was shot dead by the Columbian government in 1993. Then, Manuela was just 9 years old. The death of her father did not only end her era of fancy lifestyle but also ushered her into a brand new life as someone who moved from one country to another seeking asylum.

Fleeing Columbia in 1995, Manuel Escobar’s family were denied asylum by several countries until they finally found refuge in Argentina. In Argentina, the family lived under an assumed name so they could keep away from their father’s enemies and lead a normal life. Manuela took up a new name as Juana Manuela Marroquin Santos while her older brother Juan Pablo now bears Sebastian Marroquin. Likewise, her mother Maria Victoria Henao identifies herself as Maria Isabel Santos Caballero.

While in Argentina, Manuel Escobar resumed schooling again, this time, she joined a school with other students. When her father was killed, a majority of his assets were confiscated by the American and Colombian government while the rest were taken over by rival drug cartels. Even when their true identities were revealed and her mother and brother were arrested and accused of illicit association and money laundering, Manuela remained off the public spot. Till date, she maintains a low profile.

To stay clear off the public, Manuela has also disassociated herself from the social media. In addition to that, she cut all ties to her native country. Manuel Escobar still lives in Argentina where she studied public relations. It is believed that she is suffering from depression, her brother said in an interview that she had made several attempts to take her own life.
