Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is the wife of Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and the sixth in the line of succession to the British Throne. Before Meghan even thought of stepping out in a silk Givenchy wedding dress to tie the knot with Prince Harry, the Hollywood beauty had already gained fame as a talented US actress. She was also a lifestyle blogger and owned a website which she launched in May 2014.
Her Hollywood journey started from a humble and shattered home but ultimately became a tale of huge fame and victory through hard work and determination. Famous for starring in TV series Suits, Meghan started her acting career on-screen and has appeared in a good number of TV shows.
Although she has given up acting and all the success that came with it including her social media accounts to be with the love of her life, she continues to touch lives through her numerous charity works and fashion sense. And as a philanthropist, she is passionate about animals, women, and children’s rights. These roles appear to be more suitable for her royal status.
Age, Early Life, and Ethnicity
Meghan Markle is a California native. She was born on August 4, 1981, and raised in Los Angeles, California. The Duchess is of mixed race with African American root from her mom.
Her father is of Dutch, English, and Irish heritage. She spent her childhood in Hollywood and attended Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse before going on to obtain her high school education at an all-girl Catholic school named Immaculate Heart High School even though she was raised a Protestant. She also has a bachelor’s degree and a double major in theatre and international studies from Northwestern University. After interning at the American embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she took a course in Madrid, Spain but did only a semester. The former actress then returned to the U.S to commence her acting career. At first, it was hard for Markle to grab roles but as soon as she gave her first role as a nurse in soap opera General Hospital her best shot, the door of wider opportunity opened up for her.
Among her acting credits include Remember Me, Get Him to the Greek, and the 2011 American black comedy film, Horrible Bosses. But the most famous of them all is her portrayal of Rachel Zane on the legal drama series – Suits.
Meghan Markle Parents, Sister, Brother, and Family
The name of Markle’s mother is Dora Ragland while her dad is Thomas Markle Sr. Meghan’s dad seems to have a very close relationship with Dora who is a social worker and yoga instructor. She and Thomas, a retired TV director of photography and lighting parted ways when their daughter Markle was only six. Dora lives in California miles away from Thomas who is based in Rosarito Mexico.
Meghan has two older half-siblings named Samantha Markle and Thomas Markle Jr though they’re not very close.
Markle has been married twice. Her first marriage was to actor and producer Trevor Engleson whom she began dating in 2004. Their two-years union ended in 2013 in a no-fault divorce that cited irreconcilable differences. Shortly after their breakup, Markle started dating celebrity chef and restaurateur Cory Vitiello. Their two-years affair also ended in 2016.
June the same year, Markle fell into the arms of Prince Harry; she first met him on a blind date planned by a mutual friend. By October, they had already become an item with their relationship taking a steady spot on headlines. Of course, given Markle’s past, there were many mixed feelings including racist and abusive words being hauled at her. This propelled the British royal family’s communications secretary to address the wave of harassment and abuse towards Markle in an official statement released on 8 November 2016.
Amidst all these, the lovebirds stayed strong yet private until in 2017 when Markle for the first time spoke publicly about her love for her beau. This was followed by their first public appearance together at an official royal engagement at the Invictus games in Toronto which obviously showed that there was unconditional love existing between them. Months later, Prince Harry went on his knee to asked Markle to marry him with a diamond ring while they were having a quiet night at home. The ring designed by Cleave & Company Ltd has a large central diamond from Botswana with two smaller diamonds he got from his late mother’s (Princess of Wales, Diana) Jewellery collection.
On May 19, 2018, at St George’s Chapel Windsor Castle, the couple exchanged marriage vows and have stayed deliriously happy. Two months ahead of the wedding, Meghan Markle got baptized and confirmed into the church of England. In October 2018, it was announced by Kensington Palace that the Duke and Duchess are expecting their first child in the spring of 2019.
