If you’re a fan of The Office, you probably love Kelly Kapoor whose relationship with Ryan inspired many despite the fact that it was the most troubled of the entire affairs in the show. Well, that special role was played by Mindy Kaling who is best known for creating, writing, producing, and starring in the Fox/Hulu sitcom, The Mindy Project which ran from 2012 to 2017.
The beauty got her first break in 2002 when she collaborated with college friend Brenda Withers to portray real-life best friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in an off-Broadway play titled Matt&Ben which she also co-wrote. Since breaking into the limelight, her career has only gotten better and better. That is why we want to take you through her journey in the limelight.
Kaling was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on June 24, 1979. Her birth name is Vera Mindy Chokalingam, but she has never been addressed as Vera which in her exact words, is the name of the incarnation of a Hindu goddess. The reason being that her parents prefer to call her Mindy, a name they learned from the TV show Mark & Mindy.
The outspoken star attended a private school in Cambridge named Buckingham Browne & Nichols. In 1998, a year after graduation from Brown & Nichols, she entered Dartmouth College. There, she performed excellently and obtained a bachelor’s degree in playwriting.
Her Brother and Family
Kaling is the daughter of Swati Chokalingam, an obstetrician/ gynecologist and father, Avu Chokalingam, an architect. The couple met while working at the same hospital in Nigeria. At the time, Avu was supervising the building of a wing of the hospital while Swati worked as a gynecologist. Kaling’s mother was of Bengali heritage while her dad is of Tamil heritage.
The actress isn’t the only child of her parents. She has one sibling, a brother named Vijay Jojo Chokalingam who is now an educational consultant. The family moved to the United States in 1979, the same year Kaling was born. Sadly in 2012, Swati passed on, succumbing to pancreatic cancer.
Husband or Boyfriend, Who’s Mindy Kaling Baby Daddy?
Mindy Kaling is not married, she has no husband. She is also not loud about who she is dating which is why a lot of us woke up shocked by the news of her pregnancy. Even when she opened up about her pregnancy during an appearance on The Today Show, the actress avoided saying anything about the baby’s daddy.
This came two years after she spoke out about her desire to have children as soon as she could. During an interview with Yahoo! Style, she said “I think I’ve decided that unlike everything else in my life, I’m going to be fast and loose about kids… I’m going to not actively plan, but if it happens, it would happen.”
Amid all the speculations, Kaling went on to reaffirm that while she is ready to act all loose about having children, she is not unconcerned about who she would have the kid with. Immediately the public learned that she was pregnant in July, there were gossips as to who the potential father could be. Some took a guess that BJ Novak – her real-life best friend and ex-boyfriend whom she co-starred with in The Office was responsible for it. The two had met while writing for the TV show and have dated on and off. Sometimes, their relationship reflects the on-again, off-again nature of the relationship of the individual characters Ryan and Kelly Kapoor which they played in The Office.
While their love story sounds all interesting, it could be someone else entirely that got her pregnant and not B.J. But nobody can say for sure who the real baby daddy is. After all, she has not been publicly linked to anyone romantically for at least the past year.
Mindy Kaling’s Daughter
On December 15, 2017, Mindy Kaling had her daughter Katherine and as you might expect, the actress is still not revealing a thing about the baby daddy. Reports show that she is the only parent to appear on baby Katherine Swati Kaling’s birth certificate, so we may never get to know about the paternity of her child, or if he is involved in her daughter’s life.
Anyway, she owes nobody no explanation concerning that. It is 100 percent her entitlement to deal with it anyhow she wants, so we all have to quit snooping and respect her decision on the issue.
