Notti Osama: What Happened To The American Rapper?

Notti Osama was a 14-year-old American drill rapper from Yonkers, New York, who was fatally stabbed in July 2022 after getting into an altercation with a 15-year-old at a Manhattan subway station.

Osama’s murderer, Kelvin Martinez, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The charges were, however, later changed to first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession before being dropped entirely. Below is more on why the charges were dropped and who Notti Osama was.

Notti Osama Was 14 Years Old When He was Killed

Notti Osama, whose real name was Ethan Reyes, was an up-and-coming drill rapper in New York. The youngest of six children to parents whose identities are not public knowledge, Osama and his family are reported to have recently moved from Harlem to Young Avenue in Yonkers, New York, before his demise.

The young kid was working on achieving his dream of having a music career and had put out a few tracks and videos that were well-received in the local area. Unfortunately, he was not able to live his dream as his life was cut short following a senseless altercation that resulted in him getting stabbed in the abdomen and losing his life at the age of 14.

He Was Reportedly Stabbed By Another Teen Named Kelvin Martinez

Notti Osama and two of his friends were said to be walking around in his old neighborhood in Hamilton Heights on the day of the stabbing incident. They came across a rival rapper named Martinez.

Osama and his friends reportedly picked up a broom handle and chased the 15-year-old rapper, who ran into the subway. It was there that they cornered him at the end of the platform and hit him with the stick. In defense, Kelvin Martinez swung a knife and struck Notti Osama in the abdomen.

While Osama was injured from the knife cut, his friends continued to beat Martinez, striking him with another sharp object in different parts of the body. He was eventually knocked down onto the subway tracks but was able to pick himself up and run away despite the injuries he suffered to the hip, back, and stomach area.

Martinez Was Initially Charged, But The Charges Were Later Dropped

Following the altercation, emergency services were quickly called to the scene, and Notti Osama was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It did not take time for police to confirm that Martinez was in custody. It was revealed that his mother had brought him to the detectives later in the day.

Osama’s 15-year-old rival was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, however, after looking at the facts of the case, it was downgraded to first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession.

Prosecutors considered the fact that Osama and his friends initiated the incident and cornered the accused, who ended up stabbing the young rapper while attempting to run to safety.

It was further revealed that the 15-year-old had been assaulted by friends and associates of Notti Osama in the weeks leading up to the stabbing. This gave credence to his claim of self-defense, and the case was dismissed. Court records were later sealed.

There Was An Outpouring of Tributes For The Late Notti

After word began circulating that Notti Osama had been killed following an altercation, tributes began to pour in from both fans and family members. The first of many came from his brother and frequent collaborator, DD Osama, who took to social media to say he missed his brother. He tweeted: “Like why did you leave me? Why you tell me that death is easy?”

Osama’s cousin, Lily Ortega, called him a happy and loving child who loved spending time with his family. Others expressed their sorrow and called for the senseless violence between young people to stop.

A candlelight memorial was held in Manhattan where one of the Notti’s friends described him as someone with a million-dollar smile who worked every single day to achieve his aim of becoming a rapper. Ethan Reyes’ friends later set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for his funeral.

Notti Osama Was An Up-and-Coming Drill Rapper

Notti Osama was still learning the ropes of the music business when he died at the age of 14. By that time, however, he had put out a few songs and music videos. His YouTube page notably has 36.4K subscribers and five videos. His most recent song was with his brother DD Osama and is titled “Dead Opps.” It was shot before his demise but released after he passed away, and so featured a tribute to him at the end.
