If you’ve ever taken time to see the film Baby Mama, then you can easily recall the familiar face of Tina Fey who starred as Kate Holbrook,  the successful single businesswoman whose career and health condition could not avail her the opportunity to become a mother. There are many more TV projects where the adorable face of the young actress could be identified.

Aside from acting, Fey is a comedian, producer, writer, and playwright. Fans who have developed some form of likeness for Fey’s comics would sacrifice their sleep to catch a glimpse of her on the NBC sketch comedy series, Saturday Night Live. Her multiple roles in the entertainment industry have earned her many notable awards and accolades one of which is the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor which she received in 2010. With it, she became the youngest recipient of the award. Her late-night program has successfully established her among the leading comedians in the 21st century. Let’s take a peek into the life of the entertainment star.

Age, Early Life, and Rise to Fame

To start with, her name in full is Elizabeth Stamatina Fey. She was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, on May 18, 1970, and she was a student at Beverly Hills Middle School before moving to Upper Darby High School where she was actively involved in the editing of the school’s newspaper. She was also a regular columnist in the school’s paper. After graduating with an honor from high school, Fey then enrolled at the University of Virginia where she studied acting and playwriting. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama in 1992.

Fey’s decision to become an entertainer wasn’t spontaneous, rather, it was a love she developed as a child as she often stayed back at late night to watch some popular comics with her parents. She became confident about taking up a career as a performer after graduating from the University. Hence, her career as an actress and writer began almost at the same time. She moved to Chicago and joined the Second City to be trained as a comedian. There, she found a job as NBC’s writer for its popular variety show titled Saturday Night Live. Few years into the job, she became the show’s first female head writer. Quite a good start for a star like her.

Fey’s first TV appearance was during the 25th season of the show where she was cast as a news reporter. Within that same period, she performed in sketches and wrote a good number of jokes. In 2004, Fey wrote her first screenplay Mean Girls which she also acted in.

The film depicts the effects high school social cliques can have on teenage girls. Two years after, she created the comedy series 30 Rock which was broadcast on NBC from October 11, 2006, to January 31, 2013. More films she also featured in include Baby Mama, Date Night, Martin & Orloff, and lots more. She also had voice roles in special animated films like the English-language version of the Japanese animated film Ponyo, and the 2010 3D animated film, Megamind.

Her Net Worth

Tina Fey is believed to have a growing net worth of $45 million. This she earned from her career as a scriptwriter, actress, producer, and comedian. The 2010 animated film Megamind seems to be one of her major works. It gained a gross income of about $321 million. She reportedly earned about $500,000 per episode for her role in the TV series 30 Rock. As a writer on the Saturday Night Live, she reportedly earned $1.5 million. Her book Bossypants which was released in 2011 fared quite well in the market after selling more than 2.5 million copies and topping the New York Times’ best-seller list for five weeks.
