Apple Watts almost lost her life on March 24, 2022, a day she would not be forgetting in a hurry. The 38 year-old Watts was driving her black Mercedez Benz vehicle in Baker, California, when, according to various media reports, she collided with a Ford F250 pickup truck.

This resulted in her vehicle flipping “several times” before catching fire when it came to a stop. Watts was ejected from the vehicle but was unconscious when emergency services came to her rescue. She was said to have been unconscious in intensive care for a while before later regaining consciousness. She has since been facing an uphill battle to recover from her injuries fully.

It is not clear who was at fault for the accident as investigations are still ongoing into the matter. There were rumors that Apple Watts was intoxicated at the time of the accident but these rumors that have circulated in the media were not backed up by the reports of the paramedics or the hospital where she was treated.

She Suffered Life-Threatening Injuries

Following the accident, Apple Watts’ sister, Dominique Flournoy, took it upon herself to give the public updates on what her famous sister was going through. According to her, Watts suffered a cracked skull, a damaged back / shattered spine, and a broken arm. She also had issues with her eye which was operated on.

“My baby is still unresponsive but stable, she will have surgery on the 15th for her right eye that doesn’t completely close,” she wrote. The doctors went on to give an update on the eye, saying: “Her nerves are damaged on that side, and if this isn’t done she could have issues or perhaps go blind since her eye isn’t closing all the way. We’ll be putting a weight in the lid that will still allow her to open and close her eye.”

A GoFundMe account was subsequently opened to seek help for Watts as she fought to get her life back on track. She has since been released from the hospital but life hasn’t quite gotten back to normal as she is unable to walk. She undergoes physical therapy to get her legs to function properly.

Apple Watts, whose real name is Jontelle Lafaye Watts, gained fame following her appearance in season five of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood. Before becoming a reality television personality, the Los Angeles, California native worked as a model, exotic dancer, and rapper. She reportedly also made a brief foray into pornography where she went under the name “Ms. Apple Bottom.”

Watts, who was at one point in time referred to as “The new Cardi B” because of the similarities they share as having been strippers in the past, has notably appeared in music videos for mainstream artists like Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, Future, and Ty Dolla $ign.

Much about Apple Watts’ family is not known other than that she has a sister named Dominique Flournoy. While filming for Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, Apple was reported to have been the daughter of John Watts, a writer, and memoirist best known for his book The Rollin’ ’80s: Drugs, Money, Politics & Reality.

The duo were said to have not gotten along well when she was growing up as she spent most of her childhood in foster care. They, however, later reconnected as he made an effort to be in her life. This reconnection proved to be short-lived as Apple later found out via a DNA test that John was not her biological father. She subsequently severed all ties with him.
