We are going through a lot both physically as mentally when we carry our precious baby for 9 months. I think this is a great site for recognition and acceptance on how we look at ourselves afterwards!

Eden Godsoe: Thanks for sharing. I think we need a whole other guide of resources for the new mom including this one. Then I can link to that list!

Darya: we also have a Facebook page with new content weekly --links to articles, tips and support from birth professionals--just search for San Francisco Prenatal Yoga Community

I think I had mood swings even before I became pregnant. Pregnancy was just a great justification for them much like how I acted on my "cravings" during pregnancy.

LeAnn: I just hit 16 weeks and I have terrible crying fits. Before I got preg-o I NEVER gried but now I cry over every little thing.

Morning Sickness

In the first trimester hormone changes can cause nausea and vomiting....more

It seems like every pregnancy is different. My sister was find for #1 but was extremely sick with #2 and #3. I didn't feel ill for any of my pregnancies. The good news is most women who experience morning sickness feel better by the 2nd semester. For women who are so ill they can't work or do anything, there are safe medications if you are comfortable with that.

Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are swollen and bulging veins in the rectum. They can...more

This was a tough one to find an acceptable photo for. Trust me, don't do a search on hemorrhoids in Google Images. Unfortunately hemorrhoids are quite common during pregnancy (see the related SkinnyScoop poll on this) but go away post pregnancy. There aren't cures but you should drink lots of water and eat fiber-rich food just like for constipation.

Get used to waking up a few times at night to head to the bathroom. And the truth is that leakage (during exercise, coughing, laughing) does happen. I highly recommend doing your kegels or that leakage issue may not go away.

Now it's getting fun right? I recommend drinking lots of water, eating fiber-rich foods and avoiding caffeine. I didn't have a big issue with constipation so elected to continue drinking Diet Coke :)

I suppose the non-medical term is kankles or cankles. I certainly had a little swelling in my ankles but nothing that extreme. Some of my friends had major issues with swelling. There wasn't much they could do besides cut out caffeine as well as rest or raise your legs,

I read somewhere that up to 40% of women will experience varicose during a pregnancy. What might help is to avoid tight knee-highs and sit with your legs and feet raised.

I was lucky not to get any stretch marks but these are pretty commonplace with pregnancies. The good news is most stretch marks fade with time. Many of my friends used Cocoa Butter but I am not sure if it really helps.

I had seen ads for Tums that depicted some overweight, middle aged cab driver eating a meatball sandwich and then complaining of heartburn. I didn't realize that it was common with pregnant women. I got some bad heartburn in my 3rd trimester, a friend suggested Tums, and they really did work.

I was definitely wiped out my 1st semester. And there is really just one cure for that - get lots of rest. They say you should lie on your left side and use pillows for support around your neck, back, knees, etc. One of my fav pregnancy buys was a Snoogle Body Pillow.

My worst pains were in the lower back. Usually I just powered through it as it wasn't severe. Other recommendations are to rest or apply heat. A prenatal massage is a good idea too!

Some women love the changes their breasts go through during pregnancy...namely the fullness. For women who already have large breasts, you can start to feel like a porn star...a pregnant porn star at that. Not always good. Best advice: invest in some great bras.

Catherine Wood: No one warned me they would leak while I was still preggo!!!

I didn't have carpal tunnel during my pregnancy despite a lot to typing and computer use. However many of my friends and colleagues had issues with CTS. Extreme cases get operated on (outside of pregnancy) but many women I knew just invested in a rigid splint.

Yes, this photo is a little crazy but most women do notice that their hair gets thicker during pregnancy. Apparently this is because we don't lose as much hair as we normally would. Unfortunately you do lose that hair post delivery and your hair goes back to normal or even thinner.

Not many people know that they can develop a lipoma from the weight gained in pregnancy, nor are they aware that developing one is certain area's can cause movement issues.

Eden Godsoe: Abby - I had very little knowledge about Lipomas and the connection to pregnancies. Thank you for sharing your story.
